SOLOS heads up display for cyclists, triathletes adds voice control, group chat & more

SOLOS heads up display for cyclists, triathletes adds voice control, group chat & more - Solos Technology Limited

Introduced in fall 2015 by porting military technology over for cyclists, the Kopin SOLOS heads up sunglasses system used a tiny optic to place key data directly in your field of view. In 2016, they sponsored the Team USA track cyclists to get feedback from riders who could really benefit from the tech, which then became available through Kickstarter.

At CES this year, they’re introducing the second generation system to add audio capabilities, giving you options for voice control, group chat, audio coaching, listen to music, or take a call from your “mobile office”.

The Pupil display measures just 4mm and allows almost complete see-through and see-around clearance. The idea is to keep the important data right in front of you so you don’t waste time or mess up your form (running) or aero position (cycling) to glance down at a cycling computer. You can set up what you see and track the rest of your ride data through their app, which links together the SOLOS hardware with any other Bluetooth LE and ANT+ hardware on you and your bike (HR strap, power meter, etc.).

SOLOS UPDATES FOR 2018

The small display lets you see the data you choose crisply and clearly when you focus on it (left), then have it all but disappear when your focus returns to the road ahead.

The new audio features make it so your coach can watch your performance from a chase car (or bike), then communicate instructions.

They’ve also added running metrics like speed, power, pace, cadence and heart rate. This should keep triathletes happy as they transition from bike to run. The system can also show turn-by-turn directions (using your phone’s GPS), call and text alerts, and more. Available in Q1 2018 for $499. Works with iOS and Android, battery life is 5 hours, and claimed weight is 68g.
